Working Man

Have To Versus Choose To
From the day you are born, you HAVE to do only one thing - DIE!  Everything else is a choice.  So the next time someone says, "I have to do ...." you should say, "No, you choose to do it."

Working Man (?)
How many times have you heard (from both parties) about "the working man"?  The implication is that the "rich" do not and have never worked.  I guess they (the politicians) don't know that most rich men worked hard for many years to get rich.  And I guess that they never heard the word "risk."   There is no work harder than working under the threat of losing everything. I guess noone ever heard of the Kennedys?

Big?
Today we hear about the profits of 'Big Oil' or 'Big Pharm' or 'Big you name it.'  What do people think companies do with profits?  Have people never heard of dividends or R&D?  We invest in oil companies expecting a return on investment.  And where do new drugs come from without R&D?  And who (be specific) can define 'excessive profits?'

Social Justice?

Social Justice?
I got my undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University.  While in college, I pumped gas, mounted tires, and pulled wrenches (worked as a mechanic).  In other words, I worked my way through college.  Yes, my parents helped, but the onus was on me. I even had a wife and child then.  And I never got government help.  I then got a job and built a house (yes, I literally built it), got my MBA, and still got no government help.  And then, with a wife and two children and another house that I literally built, went back to school and got my Ph.D.  Still no government help.  In fact, not one person or government came to my aid or gave me any money or help with my classes.  Where is my social justice?  People today (read Democrats) want social justice.  Where is mine?
So I hope people will forgive me if I don't support "social justice."  And I hope people will understand when I tell people who yell "social justice" to get educated (or reeducated) and get a job or another job.
Income
And with an education I can earn more than most people.  If I want to GIVE money to others, it should be MY choice, and not be forced to by the government through higher taxes.  Income inequality?  If low wage or no wage earners want higher wages, let's see some work and education, not wait for the government to tax us to even things up.  Like it or not, we live in a global economy and political talk cannot change that.  If a person in India is worth more to me than a person in this country, I should not have to pay more just to support people in this country.

There is NO free lunch

Some Thoughts
Force
I really do not care what you do with your money, but please do not FORCE me (through higher taxes and/or other government programs) to support you.  If I want to support you, it should be MY choice.  Government should only defend us.
Taxes
When are people in general going to figure out that corporations and companies do not pay taxes?  When are people going to figure out that all the higher costs are simply passed on to consumers?  There is no free lunch.
Health Care
The Democrats say, "There are over 45 million Americans without health insurance."  Yet, on TV today, I have seen several commercials for health insurance.  Why do people who will not pay for their own health care expect me to?  Health care is NOT a right.  I will pay if I want to, but the government should not FORCE me to pay.
Global Warming
The world may (note, I say MAY) be getting warmer, but we are NOT the culprits.  Has anyone noticed that our sun is getting brighter and hotter?  And that Mars is also getting warmer.  And, yes, I have looked at the data.
Endangered Species
Did you know that over 99.9% of all species that have ever lived on this planet are extinct?  And that most died BEFORE we came on the scene.  We did not kill them.  All species (including us) either adapt to nature's changes, or they die.
Oil and drilling now
Democrats say, "We cannot drill our way out of this problem."  They can talk all they want, but they cannot change the laws of supply and demand.
Speculators
We hear a lot about oil speculators.  But what is speculation?   It is nothing more than betting on the future, just like all capitalists do.  Buying items wholesale and then putting them on the shelf to resell is also speculation.
Technology/Alternative Fuels
First, we are still waiting for an alternative fuel that Democrats say we must have.  Second, as my father used to say, "You can have anything you want - all it takes is money."  There are currently two car commercials that tout only water as exhaust (Honda and BMW).  What they do not say is these cars cost over one million dollars each.  And fuel cell technology has been around since the late 50's.
Guns
I was in the army for over 20 years, and I have owned guns all my life.  Never once has a gun gotten up by itself and shot anyone.  And I have never shot anyone either.  Better to have it and not need it than to not have it and need it.
Old Age
Old age is NOT a surprise.  If I do not plan for it, I should not look to others (in the form of taxes or discounts or Social Security) for help.
Education
I have been a statistician for over 20 years, and have taught business statisics for about as many years.  I have seen several studies over these years that the only way to "get ahead" is to get educated.  If your current job disappears, get educated for another.  There are many opportunities and job training centers available.  Why should I have to pay if your job goes away?
Preaching to the choir
Assuming that anyone not already conservative reads this, I feel that I am preaching to the choir.
Racing
I just finished watching a NASCAR race.  I was no good as a racer (plus it is very expensive and the wife had other ideas for the money).  Believe me, it is not easy to "drive around in circles".  But professionals make it look easy.  Just like professionals in any other sport.  And every lap is different.  If you find it boring, you know nothing about it.
